The Reds
Comtesse de Marion, Merlot, IGP Pays d’Oc, 2010 - £6.99
Aromas of sweet plum with a leafy touch. Supple and lightly creamy, with barely discernible tannins. Very soft and enjoyable on its own. A perfect house wine.
Montenevoso Montepulciano D’Abruzzo. Italy - £7.50
This wine has an alluring bouquet featuring aromas of raspberry and cassis with hints of tobacco and liquorice. On the palate it combines elegance and finesse. Delicious ripe fruit flavours and silky smooth tannins; the balance is impeccable and leads into a velvety finish that lingers, inviting you to to take another sip. In our opinion this is a great value for money wine and should be quaffed heartily
Mont Rocher Carignan. France. - £7.50
Our best selling French red. A bold fruity little number. Mrs Cheeses favourite ‘midweek wine’. Its depth of flavour comes from the old vines and lots of southern French sun. Tastes more expensive than £7.50 but it’s not.
Vega Del Rayo Rioja Tempranillo 2009 - £7.50
I've been so disappointed by Riojas at higher prices than this from any of the supermarkets. We needed to find a young tempranillo that we were happy with. This one does not disappoint. It is medium bodied and bursting with summer red fruits. An excellent un-oaked Rioja
Vignerons d’Estézargues, Côtes du Rhône, Terra Vitis, 2009/10 - £8.99
Terra Vitis is a sustainable, minimal intervention farming discipline, half way to organic viticulture, practiced by five members of this small co-operative. We are often asked for wine containing no sulphites (they are extremely rare), this wine however uses only the bare minimum necessary.
Deep tone. Ripe scents, with a suggestion of preserved fruits and vanilla. Strong cherry character, very supple, with some genuine depth.
Domaine Lagneau, Beaujolais-Villages, 2009 - £9.99
The Lagneau family have five hectares in Beaujolais-Villages, on schist and granite soils in Quinciéen-Beaujolais, generally accepted as the best terroir for Beaujolais-Villages. Deep tone. Ripe and juicy, all red and black cherries with hints of fig and liquorice. So crisp, alive and energetic!
Le Fou Pinot Noir, France - £9.79.
So called Le Fou (The madman) because you would have to be crazy to grow pinot in the very hot Languedoc according to the locals.
A luscious, textural Pinot Noir dispalying very intense, sweet berry fruit with a savoury twist. A mesmerisingly fruity, utterly drinkable, sensuous finish.
Météore, St.-Chinian, Clos de Bijou, 2008 - £9.99
Strikingly intense and distinctive scents: high-toned raspberries with cinnamon leap out of the glass. Supremely graceful pure red fruit, with hints of framboise. Silky tannins, almost invisible. Sprinkle of white pepper.
Château Les Petits Moines, Blaye, Côtes de Bordeaux, 2009 - £9.99
Very deep and solid hue. Attractive cassis and oak aromas. Weighty, silkily textured, this delivers powerful red and black fruit heightened with notes of mint and clove. This has the intensity, and correct tannic structure, of a much more expensive Bordeaux. 14.5%!! - One of our favourites.
Giovanni Avanzi Lake Garda Laguna. Italy £11.99 (pic soon)
Ruby red with orange-brown reflections. Nose Intense with oaky smell acquired from the barrel taste Warm, full and tannic with vanilla and biscuit tones. 60% Groppello, 10% Barbera, 15% Sangiovese, 15% Marzemino

Wilfrid Rousse, Chinon, Les Galuches, France, 2010 - £11.99
100% Cabernet Franc. Youthful purple, classy yet supple and very moreish. Ripe soft bramble and cassis fruit. Treat your Sunday roast to a great bottle of wine- treat yourself to a bottle of Wilfred Rousse Chinon.
Eduardo Garrido Rioja - Spain
Joven - £9.99
Crianza - £11.99
Reserva - £14.49
Gran Reserva -
Our exclusive family of Riojas by Eduardo Garrido are truly wonderful. From the Joven (young) that will blow away most decent supermarket Crianzas right through to the amazing Gran Reserva, Garrido wines just scream class.
The Garrido bodega at Abalos is the highest in altitude in the Rioja region and most of the modest production does not leave the region as it is a favourite among the locals. As far as we know we are the only retail outlet for this stunning wine in the UK. We can offer discount for box quantities.
Another coup for us is the spectacular Corte Real range. Only available in a handful of UK stores this high end Extramaduran bodega produces magnificent wine and then packages it exquisitely in a distinctively grand Spanish style!!
Corte Real Platinum 2002 is a top notch blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Aged for 14 months in French Allier oak, followed by 12 months in the bottle.
The Corte Real 2005 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Tempranillo. Aged for 24 months in American and French oak barrels, followed by 10 months in the bottle.
A beautiful presentation set is available comprising of 3 bottles of Corte Real titled 'Grande Divas Del cine' featuring portraits of Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Detriech & Grace Kelly. Makes a superb present.
The only problem with this is that it looks so good you may not want to open it!!
The Whites
Santa Loreto Sauvignon blanc / Chardonnay , Chile £6.99
75% Sauv Blanc - 25% Chardonnay. A crisp easy drinker for any time of the week! Just off dry with aromas of goosberry, peach and lemon. Perfect for white fish.
Domaine du Tariquet, IGP Côtes de Gascogne,
France, 2010 - £6.99
From Ugni Blanc and Colombard, this is a well-known favourite of the South-West. A mildly
tropical palate with hints of passion fruit and guava. Clean and zesty.
Il Pescatore Frascati D.O.C Superiore Secco. Italy - £7.49
Super dry and light Frascati. A lemon and flora bouquet with cheek sucking dryness. Try it Alfresco next time the sun comes out with a seafood dish like Paella or Moules mariniere.
Welland Valley Bacchus. UK - £8.49
Made on the Northants / Leicestershire border, A medium dry white made from the Bacchus (Reisling / Sylvaner cross) grape. Distinctively German tasting slightly citrus with an elderflower bouquet.
David and Jane Bates also make the lovely Roundhead still cider. We also occasionally stock some of their other wines.
Three Choirs Willow Brook, Gloucestershire, UK - £8.49
This is a rounded and ripe white wine showing attractive aromas of honey and spice and a palate full of rose petal fruit character. An off-dry style of wine which has has good weight and length on the palate. This would be an ideal choice to partner with Thai food or it could be served chilled on its own.
The Three Choirs estate also houses the fab Whittingtons brewery, who's excellent beers we stock.
